Dark Energy is the most abundant form of energy in any given universe, although it is not visible and does not permeate in tangible amounts within said universes. Within Realspace, it is near-impossible to find or harvest. However, it can be reliably harvested by Hyperdrills from openings in Hyperspace maelstroms. The Intergalactic Empire regularly utilized dark energy weaponry in its militaries, also harnessing the use of Dark Matter for their more complex assets.

Workings[]

Even with advanced technologies and scientific understandings, Dark Energy is still a complex subject. It is known that Dark Energy is responsible for the acceleration in the expansion of the universe. Although it is impossible to harvest it from within realspace, hyperspace maelstroms hold leaks of raw and tangible Dark Energy, which can exist within the altered physics of hyperspace. Dark Energy is contained in similar manners as antimatter, as contact with ordinary matter has very dangerous effects. Dark Energy's properties and slow rate of collection make it a seemingly impractical resource, but makes an excellent source of energy weapon ammunition. Dark Energy-based weaponry are equipped with specialized components that can convert the Dark Energy into a more stable plasma-like bolt, not unlike the energy bolt of plasma weaponry. Dark Energy bolts hold a greater amount of firepower than other types of energy weapons, and can also reliably damage supernatural and intangible entities. Rather than simple use of extreme heat, dark energy plasma causes spatial distortions that are too minuscule to be noticed at a distance or cause actual damage to reality, but close inspection of a bolt in flight would reveal the distortion in the immediate area around it. This distortion is what causes its heavy damage, which also vaporizes fluids and organic material in the target area, and causes heavier warps and distortions to metals and hard substances. Dark Energy is one of the most reliable energy sources to cause damage to Imperialite-armored targets, although it would still take a few shots to breach a standard military-grade exosuit. Dark Energy can be refined into other forms besides the simple "plasma" state it is put into upon discharge, such as the more dangerous Phantom Energy. Dark Energy can react with various energy boosters to increase its intensity, as seen in heavy weapons and turbolasers. The discharge of larger amounts of Dark Energy, sometimes seen in Dark Energy bombs, can cause massive visual distortions and bend objects around the sites of discharge and impact.
